Blogs:

There are a few articles that have appeared in the blogosphere today that I would like to give particular attention.

Dr. Albert Mohler has an excellent article on the Iowa caucus entitled, The Caucus, the Candidates, and the Dance of Democracy.

Dr. John Piper posted an article on the Desiring God blog that perfectly corresponds with my recent post on Missions Praying entitled, Pray Global Prayers. Highly Recommended!

Trevin Wax at Kingdom People shares some Stories of Persecution.

Brent at Colossians Three Sixteen posts an excellent article on Scripture entitled, All Scripture? Are You Sure? But What About the Hard Parts?

Wisdom of the Pages looks at Culture Shift…a new book by Albert Mohler

Doug Smith at Gazing at Glory has a wonderful article about Persevering in Our Priorities – The Message of Haggai

Steve Weaver helps us understand the Conservative Resurgence of the Southern Baptist Convention.

The top post over the past few weeks here at Pastor and People continues to be Top 10 Preachers of 2007 or as should be titled Top 10 Preachers that Greatly Influenced Me and My Walk with Christ in 2007 (but I thought that was a bit long).

Articles:

Reformation Ink is an excellent place to find classic books and articles on Reformation theology. They have a vast archive spanning many centuries and many great heroes of the faith.

Ramblings:

I began reading John Bunyan’s classic work, Grace Abounding to the Chief of Sinners. In the preface he offers a prayer that should be the prayer and effort of every Christian for his brothers and sisters in Christ, and more especially of those who are called to the public ministry. I wanted to share it with you:

“Children, grace be with you, Amen. I being taken from you in presence, and so tied up, small-bunyan.jpgthat I cannot perform that duty that from God doth lie upon me to youward, for your further edifying and building up in faith and holiness, yet that you may see my soul hath fatherly care and desire after your spiritual and everlasting welfare; I now once again, as before, from the top of Shenir and Hermon, so ‘now’ from the lions’ dens, from the mountains of the leopards, do look yet after you all, greatly longing to see your safe arrival into the desired haven.

I thank God upon every remembrance of you; and rejoice, even while I stick between the teeth of the lions in the wilderness, at the grace, and mercy, and knowledge of Christ our Saviour, which God hath bestowed upon you, with abundance of faith and love. Your hungerings and thirstings also after further acquaintance with the Father, in his Son; your tenderness of heart, your trembling at sin, your sober and holy deportment also, before both God and men, is great refreshment to me; “For ye are my glory and joy.” – 1 Th. 2:20″

Quote of the Week

"It is a mercy that our lives are not left for us to plain, but that our Father chooses for us; else might we sometimes turn away from our blest blessings, and put from us the choicest and loveliest gifts of his providence." - Susannah Spurgeon
